Santuvario Vino Rosso Lozio XIII 2017

Heralding from the most prized bunches in Ivano's vineyard, the Lozio is Santuvario’s masterpiece and is only produced from superior vintages. Harvested from 40 plus year old vines grown on a hill of sandy, mineral-rich volcanic soils, this Boca gem is made up of 80% Nebbiolo and 20% Vespolina. The fruit is destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Since the Vespolina ripens earlier, it and the Nebbiolo are vinified separately; the Nebbiolo is macerated for about a month. The two wines are then blended and aged in one oak botte for three years, followed by a year in bottle. Sulfur is used very sparingly at harvest, racking and bottling. Harmonious and ethereal, like the best reds produced in Piedmont, the Lozio is immediately pleasing to the palate with delicate cherry and menthol notes and a surprising minerality and lift that will most certainly age beautifully over the coming years.
