Queen Christina - Greta Garbo - 1933

Rouben Mamoulian's Queen Christina is one of Greta Garbo's most iconic performances — a sweeping romantic drama set in 17th-century Sweden. Garbo plays the fiercely independent Queen Christina, who secretly falls in love with a Spanish ambassador played by John Gilbert. Torn between duty and desire, she must choose between her crown and her heart. The film's final close-up of Garbo's face remains one of the most celebrated shots in cinema history.
